ROTER OKTOBER 2007 und 2008

A month-long festival organised by wiener wortstaetten in the historic premises of the Nestroyhof (2007) and various other locations (2008) in Vienna. The programme of theatre productions, performances, readings and concerts was diverse both in content and in form.

Note: For the 2007 “Roter Oktober” Hans Escher and Berhnhard Studlar were nominated for the Special Prize of the Viennese Theatre Prize „Nestroy“.

Since February 2006 wiener wortstaetten invite one author per month to take their place at the table. So far, following the recipe of literature and soup, Alma Hadzibeganovic, Julya Rabinowich, Gerhild Steinbuch, Dimitré Dinev, Michal Hvorecky, Ewald Palmetshofer and Robert Woelfl have, among others, cooked or rather read.

The directors of wiener wortstaetten

wiener wortstaetten is a unique, intercultural author-theatre-project, launched in 2005 by Hans Escher and Bernhard Studlar, which encourages discussion and networking between Austrian and international authors. Centred around authors originating mostly from Eastern Europe who live in Vienna, whose native language is not German but who write in German, an international network should be created over the years to establish an intercultural exchange and a centre for contemporary European drama in Vienna.
