Claudia Tondl, born 1980 in Vienna, studied philosophy, psychology and education as a teaching degree as well as theater, film and media studies with a focus on gender studies at the University of Vienna. She was a participant in the iTi course in theater dramaturgy 2011-2013 and took part in the uniT course FORUM Text 2016-2018. Her work as a playwright and dramaturge is characterized by site-specific and individual play and performance developments for the stage and public space. After many years of artistic collaboration with the aktionstheater ensemble (NESTROY nomination 2015), theaternyx* (STELLA nomination 2017) and the association TEMPORA, she most recently developed and staged the queer-feminist theater project :innen – eine Stadtraumvermessung regarding the topic of gender data gaps within the urban realm of Konstanz (Theater Konstanz) as part of the tondlhaas collective.
Some of her stage texts have been presented and premiered at Staatstheater Mainz, Theater Oberhausen, Schauspielhaus Graz, Landestheater Niederösterreich, Volkstheater Wien, Kosmos Theater, among others. Her plays were invited to the “4+1 treffen junger autorInnen” at Schauspiel Leipzig and to the theater biennial “Neue Stücke aus Europa” and were nominated for the Retzhofer Dramapreis. For her dramatic writing, she has received the Vienna Dramatic Scholarship, the Peter Turrini Dramatic Scholarship, the Lower Austrian Cultural Prize for Literature and a working scholarship from the German Literature Fund.
