WIENER WORTSTAETTEN Drama Lab 2027

The creation of new texts for the stage has been the focus of the WIENER WORTSTAETTEN’s work since the beginning, as well as the artistic exploration of socially relevant themes and networking between playwrights.

For the Drama Lab 2027 the WIENER WORTSTAETTEN are calling for applications for four so-called workplaces for playwrights.

This model of cooperation with authors includes a contract for work amounting to € 4.000 as well as dramaturgical support for the period of one year. Furthermore, regular working meetings of all selected authors as well as individual and group readings. Any travel expenses will be covered by the WIENER WORTSTAETTEN or its cooperation partners.

In addition, the Theater am Werk will accompany the creation of the texts as a ” Patentheater” and all play developed will be presented in staged readings in Vienna as part of the “Wortstattnächte” in autumn 2027.

Application

The application process is anonymous. Individual playwrights as well as teams and collectives can apply. To facilitate the feasability of the plays, a maximum of 5 actors should be kept in mind, as we are eager on promoting all plays developed by authors of our network to be staged. Multilingualism within the texts is possible, however, the working language of the Drama Lab is German.
There are no content-related or formal requirements for the texts

The application must comprise 2 separate files

· short sketch of concept for the envisaged play (about 1 page) as well as a test sample of 10 pages of the planned text, both anonymised

·  CV (real name)

A jury of experts will review all applications anonymously and decide upon the 4 workplaces until December 10, 2026.

The first meeting for the Drama Lab 2027 will take place in person from January 22-24, 2027 in Vienna. This date is not adjustable and compulsory for all chosen authors.
