Anna Wakulik was born in Gdańsk, Poland, and studied at the drama school of Teatr na Woli in Warsaw and at the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw. She was a dramaturge at the Teatr Dramatyczny in Warsaw (2017-2020). From 2012-2014 she was literary director at Teatr im. L. Solskiego, Tarnów. Since 2022 she has been working as a dramaturge at Teatr Wybrzeże in Gdańsk. She is the author of the play “Zażynki”, which was nominated for the London Evening Standard Theatre Award in 2013. The play won the journalist’s prize in the Metafory Rzeczywistości playwriting competition organized by Teatr Polski Poznań and was shortlisted for the All-Poland Competition for Contemporary Plays.
She has been a finalist for the Gdynia Dramaturgy Prize several times. Her other awards and nominations include: 2009 finalist for her text Sans Souci in the Metafory Rzeczywistości playwriting competition of Teatr Polski Poznań; 2011 winner of the playwriting competition of Teatr Wybrzeże for Elżbieta H.
Her plays have been published in the monthly dramaturgical magazine Dialog. In 2013, she was a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture and Cultural Heritage.
She teaches scenic writing at the Szkoła Dramatu in Warsaw, Sala Beckett in Barcelona and the University of Performing Arts in Targu Mures, at Collegium Civitas and the Warsaw School of Photography and Graphic Design.
Anna Wakulik is part of the Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe network and took part in the symposium “Is writing an activity, carrer or therapy? – Female perspectives on contemporary playwriting” in 2020.
She is also part of the current edition of Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe. New Voices where she will be leading the workshop Echoes together with Alexandra Koch and Bernhard Studlar in August 2025.
