Call for entries for the 2026 exile playwright award

An initiative to promote contemporary drama and cultural diversity by WIENER WORTSTAETTEN and the association exil – verein für interkulturelle kunst und anti-rassismus arbeit.

We are looking for full-length, unpremiered plays that deal with the topics of identity, integration and life between cultures in the broadest sense.

All texts must be written in German by the authors themselves, regardless of their origin. Multilingualism in the texts is possible and indeed welcome. Translations are not permitted. There is no age limit for participants.

Please submit your plays as PDF files via the online form on the WIENER WORTSTAETTEN website.
Submissions should also include:
A short biography and contact details (phone number and email address) of the author.

The exile Playwright Award is awarded with a prize money of €3,000.

Submission period: February 10 to April 30, 2026

About the exile playwright award

The WIENER WORTSTAETTEN have been supporting the exile drama award since 2007, an initiative of the of the edition exile.
Last year at the internationally call for plays 87 submissions were sent from authors all over Europe. 2026 the exile playwright award will be awarded for the 16th time.
